The Hospital of Central Connecticut Selects Ingenious Med for Inpatient Practice Management

ATLANTA- September 23, 2009- The Hospital of Central Connecticut (THOCC), a 400-bed hospital in New Britain, has chosen Ingenious Med’s IM Practice Manager to automate, organize and increase quality of care and revenue.  In the first phase, more than 75 physicians at THOCC will be using IM’s handheld and Internet-based solution, joining hundreds of other physicians in Connecticut as licensed Ingenious Med users, making it the most widely used electronic charge capture system in the state.

Dr. Jonathan Lovins, Director of Hospital Medicine at THOCC, was familiar with Ingenious Med and was on a site-visit in Greenville, South Carolina when he observed a group utilizing IM Practice Manager. His group of hospitalists, who had been using hand-written billing cards, was in the process of looking for an automated system to become safer and more compliant.

“I was extremely impressed when I saw the product in action and in the hands of the rounding physicians,” said Lovins. “The design is intelligent and incredibly intuitive. I knew on the spot this was something that my group needed.”

However, it was not that easy for Lovins. He did his research and shopped around, ensuring he made the perfect decision for the group. When the hospital became affiliated with a health system using another automation system, Lovins took the other vendor into serious consideration. In the end, Ingenious Med was the system they preferred and “far superior in terms of meeting all of our needs,” noted Lovins. “We were looking for an entire practice management system that encompassed better productivity and data management, the ability to incentivize physicians, and tools for sign out and communication,” said Lovins. “Most of all, we wanted something that would fit our current work-flow and make our physicians’ lives easier. Ingenious Med has all of this and will give us the highest return on our investment while increasing compliance and safety.”

Ingenious Med will initially be implementing IM Practice Manager for the hospitalist and resident groups at THOCC, with plans to expand the service to the additional specialties within the hospital. THOCC has also chosen the dual-integration plan, in which Ingenious Med will interface with the hospital’s existing HIS and billing systems, to further streamline and automate THOCC’s charge capture, rounding and billing procedures.
